Director, US Commercial IT

Job Description:

Reporting to the VP of IT International and the Senior Vice President of the US Commercial affiliate, this person will have a single point of accountability for the people, processes and technology that will help to enable the ambitious growth trajectory of the US. In addition, he/she will be jointly accountable along with the Director of Global Commercial IT to drive a compelling roadmap that seeks to propel Biogen to the forefront of its industry in its innovative and productive use of technology.
Since most of the corporate systems used by the US are also used by the rest of the company, the technology portfolio is somewhat focused in four main technical areas: 1) CRM (inclusive of sales force automation, call center management, and mobile applications and devices, 2) Business Intelligence/Decision Support (Oracle Data Warehouse, various OLAP, ETL tools and visualization tools), 3) Digital Communications (patient and physician websites, email marketing, and mobile consumer apps). 4) Market Access (Revenue Management, Payer Analytics, etc).
We are seeking someone who has led a Commercial IT function in the life sciences sector. This person will need to play several roles:
- As a thought leader in Commercial IT - will exhibit thought leadership in how IT is changing: the way healthcare is consumed by patients, the way HCPs practice medicine, the way payers evaluate reimbursement and formularies, the way Pharma companies must compete for share of mind of voice with health care practitioners and strongly influence the IT commercial strategy.
- As a member of the US Leadership team - can set a clear vision for the value IT can bring, has the executive gravitas and influencing skills to enroll senior leadership in this vision, has the sense of urgency to drive to this vision relentlessly, advocate for ustilizaiton of standard tool and is versatile enough to be a credible and engaged contributor in non-IT topics which are important to run the US affiliate.
- As one of the top 10 leaders in all of IT - will be a role model to others in IT

Job Requirements:

Qualifications
- Having led part or all of a Commercial IT function for a life sciences company, a division or Business Unit.
- Having been part of a non-IT, senior leadership team within a company, preferably a region or affiliate
- Having successfully worked in an IT organization where there is a dependency on a shared service for infrastructure and application management/delivery
- Has worked and flourished in a rapidly growing company
- Has demonstrable experience in building high performing teams Necessary behaviors/competencies for a successful candidate includes:
- Business and IT Balance - Is bi-lingual in both business and IT, and to translate business goals into powerful and ambitious IT objectives
- Collaboration - Ability to understand and influence peers by being a powerful listener who shows up as an empathetic collaborator, not as an order taker
- Strategic thinking - Can generate a compelling and inspirational vision, strategic plan and capability roadmap that makes it clear how IT can emerge as a strategic asset for the company
- Intellectual agility - Is an agile thinker who thrives in ambiguity and has the creativity to see 'around corners'
- Talent building - Is a role model in people development, by inspiring people to a committed vision, empowering them to achieve them, and challenging them to achieve more than they ever thought possible. Has the self-assuredness to aspire to hiring people 'better than them.'
- Customer orientation - View IT as a function that's there to serve the business, and is fully and completely oriented around customer service.
- Optimization of assets - Is smart enough to know there will always be more demand than supply, but is saavy enough to make people feel satisfied by ensuring the right priorities make it to the top (governance)
- Focused on the ends not the means - Measures the value of IT projects by the impact they have on employees and customers, not on time, money or meeting 'requirements'
- Flexible execution - Has a clear vision on what should be owned and what should be bought, and the experience to execute that vision to something that works for everyone
- Intellectual curiosity - Is curious about the outside world and committed to importing great ideas regardless of where they come from.
