Job Description:

As a member of Biogen's Cell Culture Development team, the candidate will be responsible for the managing advancement of programs from Research to Manufacturing. The candidate will supervise a small team responsible for bench scale experiments to define cell culture process for biologics programs as well as to transfer it into manufacturing. The ability to manage their team to work efficiently, maintain operational excellence, to meet project timelines and to influence other stakeholders across the development organization is a key responsibility of this position. The candidate will also play a significant role in the assessment and development of new innovative technologies and enhance fundamental understanding that will be crucial for successful cell culture processes.

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Work independently or with minimal supervision on defined projects for development of mammalian Cell Culture processes for recombinant protein production
2) Design laboratory experiments with minimal guidance and participate with their team on execution
3) Perform independent data analysis and interpretation and develop strategies for optimization and troubleshooting
4) Supervise junior staff to advance project goals and provide them with coaching, career development and career advancement opportunities
5) Work closely with pilot plant for process scale-up and execution of development projects
6) Represent Cell Culture Development in internal cross-functional teams
7) Document development work in concise reports and provide project updates in written and oral presentations
8) Support maintenance tasks and new technology evaluations for laboratory instrumentation, interact with outside vendors / suppliers

Job Requirements:

Qualifications1) Proven record of successfully planning and executing projects and experiments 2) Strong analytical skills 3) Excellent written and verbal communication skills 4) Supervisory experience is highly desired 5) Knowledge and experience in mammalian cell culture / biotechnology related development (aseptic operations, cell biology, biochemistry, analytical techniques, bioreactor operations) 6) Demonstrated ability to develop innovative technologies / approaches in Cell Culture 7) Ability to work well in both individual and leadership capacities 8) Strong organizational skills and ability to plan and administer a project to ensure timely completion 9) Highly skilled in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools. Knowledge of statistical software applications, including DoE, is a plus EducationBioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related discipline:
- Ph.D. with 3 - 8 years' experience, or
- M.S. with 10+ years' experience in the Biotech / Biopharm industry
- Other relevant expertise in Science or Engineering will be considered.
