In line with the global medical strategy the Medical Affairs (MA) Affiliate Lead sets and provides the strategic direction for affiliate MA and has overall responsibility for all the affiliate MA activities, including local MA tactics and operations, as well as relevant pharmacovigiliance (SABR Safety and Benefit/Risk), regulatory and compliance aspects for all medical products and related disease areas within the country. The MA Affiliate Lead supports and ensures the Biogen Idec Medical Affairs vision of maintaining a best-in-class Medical Affairs function to provide services in line with the best governance and performance principles in the best interest of patients, Health Care Providers (HCP), and the company.

The Medical Affairs Affiliate Lead ensures appropriate and effective execution of the Medical Affairs plan and ensures that trusted medical / scientific relationships with health care community
o Lead the development of the affiliate medical plan, partnering with the affiliate management team across functions to define, establish and execute a coherent local integrated plan for the relevant Biogen Idec medical products.
o Partner and collaborate with market access to support reimbursement strategies and elucidate the value of Biogen Idec medical products relevant to local external stakeholders (payers, HCPs, agencies), this may include developing and executing according data generation activities (e.g. phase IVs, registries, etc.), to master real-world setting medicine.
o Support regulatory strategies for registration of development products by providing local expertise as needed
o Develop and manage budgets for medical activities and provide input into the affiliate budgeting and planning process
o Provide affiliate medical input into regional / global medical strategy leveraging local stakeholder insights
o Facilitate sharing of best practices and knowledge across countries
o Provide advice to GCO on clinical development trials implementation and support IITs as appropriatestakeholders are built and maintained.
o Ensure medical excellence by building and enabling medical education for external stakeholders as appropriate
o Ensure medical review of country-specific promotional materials for medical/scientific accuracy when needed and clearly express rationale for any objection and sign-off before release
o Identify top external medical/scientific experts and develop strong peer-to-peer scientific partnerships with them, leading external expert coordination strategies within local / regional / global medical team
o Develop and maintain high quality medical team
o Provide medical expertise to other functions and teams within the affiliate and at regional / global level
o Ensure adequate internal medical training is developed and provided to the affiliate staff
o Support medical function to identify lifecycle opportunities for medical product based on medical needs
o Leverage/capitalize on team/individual strengths
o Deliver training, skill development and assessment of affiliate MA team members
o Develop specific and actionable development plans for MA team members
o Create a climate in which self-motivated individuals will aspire to higher levels of performance by creating high standards, and by rewarding and recognizing exceptional performance
o Create an environment of trust, delegate responsibility to help individuals grow professionally
o Provide positive and developmental feedback appropriately
