Job Description:

The Associate Director reporting to the Director of R&D Business Planning will:

1. Oversee and lead financial analyses for one of R&D's primary functions (i.e., Research, Development) to support long range planning, forecasting, and ad hoc analyses
2. Provide Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and decision support analytics to the Sr. R&D Leadership Team including the long range plan, annual budget and quarterly forecasts

The role requires strong financial skills, decision support analysis, ability to shape and influence approach towards strategic investment decisions and ability to multi-task.

Key customers are the R&D Sr. Leadership Team and various other sub-function leadership teams (eg: Research Leadership, Global Development Leadership).

Key Deliverables / Activities
R&D Functional Finance Leadership

- Lead analysis around financial investment in various R&D functions. Coordinate cost projections and conduct what-if analysis and other analytical support to drive investment decisions


- Compile financial inputs and analysis in long range plan (5 years) and annual plan


- Lead cross program financial integration for the Biogen Idec LRP


- Provide R&D Functional Leaders with monthly and quarterly variance analysis to drive accountability, will influence corrective action recommendations


- Support Director R&D Financial Planning in annual planning, board materials, CFO briefings and other ad hoc requests


- Provide peer leadership to R&D Financial Planning Team

- 8+ years of experience (including graduate school) in biotech/pharmaceutical industry, consulting or investment banking
- Biotech/Pharma experience strongly preferred
- Excellent modeling and presentation skills required

- Demonstrated ability to influence and build strong working relationships with business partners. Exceptional follow-through skills
