Job Summary:

The STD Unit Leader will ensure that the team achieves or exceeds its business objectives in the areas of Claim Management Accuracy, Customer Centricity and Expense Management. Sets clear expectations of performance according to the MetLife vision and holds the team accountable to those expectations. Ensures that the team has the knowledge, skills, and tools to be successful and provides support as appropriate.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Works with customers to negotiate, arbitrate, and resolve issues, concerns, and expectations regarding process, service and performance guarantees.

  • Manages risk and performance of assigned team and claim block.

  • Accountable for ensuring team performance with delivery on customer commitments and high quality claim decisions which includes intimate knowledge of actions and decisions made by members of team and appropriate coaching and performance management to address any discrepancies.

  • Responsible for identification and delivery of action plans including Quality Assurance results, control reports, UM Scorecard, Appeals, customer escalations and complaints, etc.

  • Acts as project lead and /or participates in various project assignments.

  • Conducts quality management reviews to ensure financial and decisional accuracy.

  • Tracks data and analyzes and reports information via established claims metrics report on standard and customized levels.

  • Manages individual unit operating costs.

  • Participates in customer presentations and new account implementations.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Full people management responsibilities, including hiring, firing, promotions, performance and compensation management, and training and development.

    Key Competencies, Qualifications and Skills, Preferred:

  • Prior management experience is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to communicate clearly an effectively, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong analytical, decision making and problem solving skills

  • Presentation skills are important in person and on the phone with internal leadership or external customers.

  • Ability to represent MetLife in a positive, professional way to all customers.

  • Highly self-motivated individual.

  • Ability to adapt to change quickly in a fast paced work environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to articulate clearly to diverse audiences with different styles

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years of disability insurance experience.

  • 1+ year of previous supervisory experience

    Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of disability insurance experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
