Job Description

In this position the Managing Sales Director (MSD) will be responsible for driving growth and profitability through attracting and developing talent. This Director's purpose is to work with our Financial Planners, and Financial Services Representatives (FSRs) to build a healthy practice. This role requires you to identify areas of development for each FSRs assigned to you and to provide additional support through our regionalized support departments. This MSD's ability to achieve strong results will require attracting new experienced and inexperienced representatives and coaching each advisor to far exceed our minimum production requirement, increasing conference level qualifiers, and have upward movement within our conference levels to ultimately achieve the highest level.

Principal Responsibilities:

1.Participates in the annual Business Planning meetings to thoroughly understand the Firm's vision, strategies and goals as it relates to production and product mix metrics.

2. Ability to achieve metrics through identifying the support needed the MSD and the regional marketing and training departments.

3. Leverage the resources of our and firm, corporate support and wholesalers to increase FSR productivity.

4. Responsible for recruiting and meeting Firm's objectives. This MSD will be required to consistently build a strong pipeline of experienced and inexperienced recruits. This will be done by networking, developing centers of influence and driving active recruiting strategies to find the best candidates.

5. Manages, develops and coaches inexperienced and Experienced FSRs. This includes:

  • Participating in sales calls, conducting regular team meetings and individual sales planning conference (ISPCs).

  • Understanding the different expectations and development needs as it relates to the FSR's Years of Service (YOS 1, 2, 3, and 4).

  • Assessing skillset of individual FSRs to create a business and performance plan with each FSR that addresses development needs, marketing plan and team selling opportunities. The MSD must ensuring that each plan reflects the Firm's and MetLife's overall strategies and goals.

  • Coaching FSRs on increasing sales, meeting the objectives of their business plans, as well as overall selling skills, product knowledge and identifying and developing a market plan.

  • Provide ongoing support in FSRs' professional development.

  • Managing performance of FSRs through an accountability system, and participates in employment-related decisions.

6. Maintaining a thorough knowledge of MetLife products and effectively transfers that knowledge to FSRs.

7. Reinforcing first 90-day assimilation FSR training.

8. Maintaining an ethical and professional work environment.

9. Reinforces compliance culture to ensure that each FSR understands all MetLife policies and practices with respect to Compliance, Human Resources and Legal Affairs inclusive of MetLife's good business practice processes. Will escalates concerns as appropriate.

10. Staying current on MetLife policies, systems, tools and with industry trends regarding field management best practices.

11. Actively participating in company-sponsored-management and leadership development programs.

12. Completing continuing education requirements to maintain licenses. Will be on a path to obtaining professional designations.

13. Embedding a planning client centric culture within firm.

14. Providing Client Engagement Model integration for FSRs.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrate skill in coaching FSRs on effective sales techniques.

  • Possess problem-solving, management, leadership, communication, interpersonal and coaching skills.

  • Knowledge of FINRA/SEC compliance regulations and policies and ability to apply MetLife specific policies and procedures appropriately.

  • Ability to learn organization's operation processes.

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing business transactions.

  • Knowledge of industry trends and ability to understand and apply field management best practices.

  • Knowledge and involvement in professional organizations and professional designations.

  • Ability to partner effectively with others to achieve results.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically.

  • Appropriate licensing:Life and Health insurance, Series 6 and 63.

  • Series 7, 24 and 65 may be required, depending on job responsibilities and supervisory activities performed in the Firm.

  • Company-supported designations preferred.

  • Licenses and registrations necessary to sell products available through MetLife and its affiliates.

  • 2 years as a FSR preferred, and 1 to 2 years as a sales manager in an organization that is highly structured and has commission based sales.

  • Track record of success in financial services sales or sales management.
