THE ROLE:

 

  • The Competitive Strategy and Analytics Lead will work with the Head of Competitive Advantage, other ESG leadership and business leaders globally to evaluate opportunities and threats from current and future competitors, partners, and technologies.
  • This Executive will be responsible defining, leading and conducting projects to analyze MetLife's traditional and non-traditional competitors globally.
  • S/he will actively monitor major trends and actions by competitors including M&A, major investments, partnerships, strategy shifts and MetLife's financial performance relative to global peers. This will serve as input into Competitive Advantage strategy and will be a basis of recommendations for potential shifts in MetLife's enterprise and business unit strategies.
  • As a member of the Enterprise Strategy Group, s/he will have an opportunity to collaborate on broader corporate strategy topics and projects with significant executive leadership exposure

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continually scan and monitor external environment and MetLife's strategic position and performance against competitors and recommend changes to strategy as necessary
  • Manage the research of information and analysis on MetLife's competitors, environmental forces and industry trends that shape the global insurance and financial services marketplace
  • Update MetLife's overall enterprise strategy with specific focus on Accelerating Value
  • Bring the lessons from other industries that can be leveraged and applied to our business
  • In partnership with key stakeholders and cross-functional team members, identify the highest value opportunities to impact how MetLife serves different customer segments, improve our differentiation against our competitors, and find new and better ways to acquire and build these relationships through our customers
  • Work collaboratively as key member of global cross-functional team dedicated to these efforts, to evaluate, provide insight and drive strategic outcomes that have the greatest impact on the Company
  • Enable the transfer of strategic ideas into operational decisions
  • As part of Accelerating Value, work with business units to align bottom's up and top's down enterprise priorities
  • Help communicate the strategy to constituents including the Executive Group, senior executives, company employees and other stakeholders

 

Job Requirements:

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

 

Business Knowledge/Technical Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience post MBA with 3+ years at a an investment bank as an industry analyst, strategy consulting firm, top tier insurance organization or 5+ years of experience at those organizations with an undergraduate degree

  • Strategy work in or with a large, global, matrixed organization, including change management and data and analytics

  • Successful track record of leading and working with top management in defining the strategic intent, vision and direction and of translating that vision into specific business strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior stakeholders across business lines to identify, analyze and plan actionable initiatives and led cross-functional teams

  • Experience with strategic scenario planning, with preference for strategic war gaming experience

  • Experience with industry analytics, assessing risk and opportunities, including changes in competitive landscape, customer opportunities and vulnerabilities, and options for approach core and disruptive innovation

  • Experience in business case development including industry trends, products and distribution methods, and high priority markets

  • Experience with client-side and supplier-side market intelligence and competitor intelligence

  • Able to structure and conduct detailed, data-driven analyses

  • Experience working with corporate support functions and business units to align enterprise strategies
