THE ROLE:

The Chief Technology Architect for Investments is accountable for creating a future technology architecture blueprint that is tightly linked to MetLife's Investments business strategy and ensures that all IT initiatives are advancing the blueprint globally. This position will drive the acceptance and adherence to the technology blueprint across all sectors working with both IT and the business to ensure compliance.

This person needs to have a deep understanding of Front (Derivatives, FI, Credit, FX, EM, Alternatives), Middle (Risk, Compliance,) and Back (Operations) office businesses. S/he is able to translate business needs into appropriate architecture solutions that spans across Europe, MEASA, Latin America and Asia with assets under management in excess of $450 Billion globally.

Dimensions of Position

  • Subject matter expert position in information technology at a global enterprise level
  • Position interacts with MetLife executive committee, GTO leadership team, EAD leadership team and many other VP level associates globally within technology and the business
  • Position influences global leaders to ensure success of enterprise-level programs and platforms to be leveraged globally
  • Total spend impacted is approximately $100 million/year across investments development functions
  • Position assures that the value delivered by investments initiatives is aligned to MetLife strategies and standards in order to maximize synergies and enterprise leverage

Principal Responsibilities

  • Design and drive the technology, application and information architecture vision for Investments at MetLife
  • Assist and support the Line of Business CIO in accelerating business transformation globally through external hosting initiative
  • Illustrate a deep understanding of how both current and future technology can be used to drive business transformation
  • Foresee business disruptions caused by technology advancements and change
  • Communicate and advocate for architecture across IT and with close partnership of the Investment business
  • Develop and support a communication infrastructure to support all IT associates, deep understanding of cross-enterprise architectural processes in a shared service environment. Important to identify IT trends and directions
  • Identify opportunities to enforce closer alignment between IT solutions and Investment business processes globally
  • Assist Line of Business managers in identifying future benefits through best practice implementation with internal and external vendors
  • Represent Investments IT at Global Architecture Review Board which is responsible for governing standard technologies within MetLife and drive adopted technology and applications through the lines of business
  • Investigate new infrastructure technologies which provide solutions to current problems
  • Lead Innovation/Proof of Concept work

Financial Responsibilities

  • Reduce and contain IT costs through retirement, convergence, risk mitigation and value alignment of IT investments
  • Produce Line of Business reporting to demonstrate compliance with internal metrics and financial targets
  • Provide detailed reporting on new initiatives identifying ROI and costs
  • Identify opportunities to extend business capabilities to increase revenues globally

Job Requirements:

  • 15+ years of technology leadership as an architect or CTO within the financial services industry, preferably Investments
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience, Advanced degree preferred
  • Deep understanding of the business and the ability to discuss technological terminology in business terms
  • Strategic partnership and relationship with client groups, with the ability to influence
  • Effective organizational and cultural skills to drive and implement major re-engineering efforts
  • Experience in managing in a complex financial service environment
  • Ability to foster organization change through multiple channels
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills as well as a strong capability for teamwork/collaboration across organizations
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
