The Global Risk Management (GRM) organization counts roughly 200 individuals and is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and managing risks for the enterprise. GRM includes Corporate Risk Management (CRM), Global Pricing & Valuation, Regional Risk Management, Economic Capital and Program Management units. CRM is responsible for providing an enterprise-wide, independent and comprehensive framework to appropriately identify, aggregate, measure, manage and report risks across the organization that impact the Company's capital, liquidity, earnings, operations and reputation. This position will play a key role within the Market Risk & Derivatives team within CRM to ensure market risk is effectively managed at MetLife.

THE ROLE:

This position will report to the VP, Market Risk & Derivatives. The Market Risk & Derivatives team is looking for an experienced manager with strong quantitative skills. This position will require a deep understanding of market risks, particularly interest rates and equity, and a practical familiarity with ALM strategies, including the use of derivatives. This position will play a key role in analyzing market risk at MetLife and in the development and implementation of market risk management strategies, tools, processes and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of market risk strategies to be presented to the Americas ALM Committee, other ALM Committees and the Enterprise Risk Committee
  • Attend and actively participate in ALM Working Groups to identify, monitor, and provide a risk management perspective on issues and strategies, working closely with partners in ALM, Investments, Finance, Treasury and the business. Review recommended changes and enhancements to portfolio investment guidelines
  • Facilitate the development and reporting of market risk analytics, either directly or indirectly with the support of other functions. Attend related working groups, such as the Replicating Portfolio Working Group, as necessary
  • Implement and maintain the Enterprise Market Risk Policy
  • Lead the development, implementation and production of economic assumptions used for global stress testing (GAAP, statutory and economic capital, liquidity). This position will manage the agenda of the Enterprise Stress Testing Committee for the head of Corporate Risk Management and will be responsible for compiling a database of global capital stress testing assumptions, as well as review of assumptions for reasonability within the context of the stress testing scenario
  • Participate in Regional Economic Assumption Committees and support Global Investment Assumptions Committee
  • Oversee both legal and economic hedge effectiveness testing
  • Address market risk-related requests arising from rating agencies and regulators
  • Effectively communicate and accurately represent the enterprise market risk profile
  • Provide backup support to the unit head on day-to-day risk management decisions, monitoring, attendance at various working groups and other committee meetings, and ad hoc requests
  • Oversee ad hoc modeling and analysis for various projects, working groups and committees related to market risk or derivatives risk. Gain familiarity with stress testing, economic capital and value at risk frameworks used at MetLife
  • Manage a team of market risk analysts
  • Forecast and monitor the budget around assigned projects and resources

Job Requirements:

Business Knowledge/Technical Skills:

  • Excellent analytic skills with an advanced degree in math, finance, statistics, or engineering preferred, FSA preferred, Ph.D., CPA, or CFA a plus
  • 8+ years hands-on risk management, asset-liability management, trading, and/or portfolio management experience
  • Deep understanding of fixed income investments, equities, and derivatives, with a focus on market risk
  • Strong understanding of insurance liabilities
  • Excellent project management, oral and written communication skills, and ability to operate effectively in a matrix environment
  • Extensive experience modeling assets and liabilities, experience with statistical and econometric modeling
