Summary of Position Responsibilities:

Lead and participate in the implementation enterprise level processes and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of data management and database implementation in a 7x24 operational environment. Conduct ongoing research into emerging information systems technology to anticipate and plan for opportunities to take advantage of new and enhanced DBMS features and develops the strategy and solutions to follow. Identifies risks and exposures and determines the solutions to rectify and prevent future occurrences. The Database Administrator (DBA) in this position will have passion for data, Big Data, and databases, and bring relational and non-relational (NoSQL) expertise to help us deliver best in class data delivery solutions. Handle the day-to-day database administration for DB2 LUW. This will include, but not limited to, troubleshooting production issues, participate in application development deployments, assists in development lifecycle, space allocation and management, optimization, backup, recovery, DB instance performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning, standards identification and compliance, ensuring a high-level of reliability and availability for database management systems. Provide 24x7 on-call escalation path for database related problems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Proactively ensures the database management environments are updated with current stable versions of software products, maintains currency with operating system and support software, plan and implement major software upgrades, ensures change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed. Tasks include monitoring, high-availability, HADR, backup/recovery, security, capacity planning, tuning, performance enhancements, etc.
  • Participate in establishing processes, best practices, and database management solutions including development standards, backup/recovery, quality control, DR/failover, monitoring, maintenance, etc. for IBM DB2 LUW.
  • Provides leadership during system unavailability and triages high severity situations.
  • Optimizes the organization's current data and database assets and recommends future initiatives. Optimizes current strategies to enhance operational stability and availability of the database using operational best practices.
  • Position will have involvement in monitoring, metric reporting, automation and reducing operating costs. Position requires strong leadership qualities: Position will lead team efforts to improve performance, metrics reporting, and transparency by producing dashboards and being transparent.

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in database and database internals, with strong focus on DB2 LUW databases.
  • 5+ years of experience in UNIX (AIX and Linux) operating systems.
  • 5+ years of experience of scripting in Perl, UNIX shell, Windows, or PowerShell. Strong SQL skill.
  • 5+ years of experience in Performance Tuning.

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or years equivalent work experience, as well as any applicable DBMS certifications.
  • Experience with other IBM data technologies: Informix database and/or Netezza administration, etc.
  • Experience with MySQL database administration (or similar such as PostgreSQL), Splunk administration, NoSQL/Big Data platforms like MongoDB, Splunk, and/or Hadoop/hBase
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • ADP or equivalent certification preferred, or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. US citizenship is a requirement for certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese strongly preferred

This position will require a government approved background screening that verifies US citizenship, education, negative criminal history and egregious financial history.
