Job Description:

The Clinical Unit Leader directs, plans, organizes, and controls all activities of the Clinical department to ensure its effective, efficient and profitable operation within the disability income insurance organization. The Clinical Unit Leader also manages all aspects of customer service, acts as change agent and an advocate for team building.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Directs, plans, organizes, and controls all activities of the Clinical department to ensure an effective, efficient and profitable operation.
  • Provides support to associates and balances workloads.
  • Coordinates training and provides mentoring for the Clinical team.
  • Completes Quality Assurance Audits on each associate on the team.
  • Completes and presents goals and objectives to Clinical associates and maintains updated documents.
  • Manages and communicates improvement efforts to successfully lead team members to meet business objectives.
  • Leads and motivates the clinical/quality management team in a professional and positive manner.
  • Monitor associates' performance and provides frequent feedback. Reviews and addresses second level rebuttals to conclusion.
  • Maintains excellent positive working relationships with Unit Managers, Specialty Services Managers, and Clinical/Operations Managers in a positive manner.
  • Participates in presentations to customers.
  • Assists in compiling monthly, quarterly and annual data, assists in conducting analysis of data and determining root cause.
  • Participates in quarterly trends meeting with claim management.
  • Contributes to development of new and updated quality processes for continuous improvement.
  • Participates in clinical/claim team meetings when necessary.
  • Embraces and promotes change initiatives.
  • Maintains excellent relationships with customers in a positive manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Full people management responsibilities, including hiring, firing, promotions, performance and compensation management, and training and development.

Job Requirements:

  • RN, LCPC, LCSW, LPC or related field or CRC designation.
  • Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Rehabilitation or related field, if Registered Nurse will nursing degree with current RN state license.
  • 2+ years disability claims or other related experience.

Key Competencies, Qualifications and Skills, Preferred

  • Prior people management experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of the overall industry.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation development, writing, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility and build relationships in a team environment with people at all levels of an organization.
