As part of the China team you will be expected to develop a strong relationship with your Retail team. You will be responsible for delivery of sales and profit targets in order to execute a well-conceived product strategy. You will be collaborative, organised, and strategic, with your finger on the pulse of fashion, always looking to push the department forward.

The Role:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Strategically plans the China Retail operation, maximising sales and margin growth, working alongside the China GM to help deliver overall strategy.
  • Oversees the China Retail team and their processes, in both the UK & Shanghai, developing best practice and delivering profitable departments irrespective of fluctuating trends.
  • Foresees future weaknesses / needs and suggests possible solutions.
  • Reviews processes to maximise opportunities and minimise risks of key events/trends/promotions within the China market.
  • Develops a sound supply policy for the Brand, striving for consistent best practice partnerships and ways to reduce lead times and drive profit.
  • Oversees range development - ensures that the product reflects the Brand strategy, the range is without gaps or duplication, and that the season is logically and commercially thought through.
  • Works with .com teams to operate an effective / timely product sign-off and procurement process, appropriate for product lead-times.
  • Leads Garment Tech team to drive best practice in maximizing compliance whilst minimizing additional costs.
  • Analyses trading patterns, advises team and ensures appropriate action is taken to sales reactions.
  • Identifies promotional / marketing opportunities for brand and manages the process, reflective of the China market.
  • Builds a strong team with a focus on growing future talent.
  • Guides and inspires the team, agreeing overall retail and divisional strategies.
  • Provides positive leadership supporting brand / company policy / strategy and encourages others to do so.
  • Develops skills of the team - identifies individual training needs as well as encourages effective teamwork.
  • Deals with any people issues promptly and appropriately.
  • Offers advice and helps find solutions to the wide range of issues encountered by the teams - acts as trouble-shooter.
  • Provides individual support to new Retail heads - ensures a full induction is provided and adequate support given during their learning curve.
  • Pre-empts the need for, and manages change - supporting teams and those in other functions, throughout process.
  • Works with the senior management teams across Asos, Retail and within the China team to develop strong and consistent marketing messages / brand image.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a senior position (Head of Dept), preferably within a Retail organisation
  • Customer-focused knowledge of market and trends
  • A strong and varied network of contacts
  • Strong communication skills to achieve win-win situations
  • Proven experience in managing contract relationships successfully
  • Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers in conjunction with our procurement teams
  • Experience of high volume, high speed and high quality dependent requirements
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to rapid change
  • Excellent organizational and written skills
  • A willingness to push the boundaries
  • Creativity, with an innovative thought process
  • Strong internal/external stakeholder management skills
