Title:

Senior Analytics Engineer, Partner Devices

Job Description:

Senior Analytics Engineer, Partner Devices

Los Gatos, California

Who we are:

Netflix is now global and using the best new technologies to deliver amazing TV and movies to screens of all sizes! Our growth and innovation is driven in large part by using the data we generate to improve strategic and tactical decision making. The Data Engineering & Analytics organization is responsible for turning that data into analytic tools and insights.

The Partner DEA team supports the Partner Ecosystem department which delivers the Netflix experience on consumer electronics devices. We keep track of the device ecosystem, analyze in-field device performance, track new feature releases, and work closely with the engineering teams to measure and improve the user experience. As we grow globally we are increasing our scrutiny on the reliability and quality of the member experience on the diverse world of devices built by our partners.

What you will do:

  • Become fully immersed in the context of consumer electronic devices and be a highly technical resource to help answer nuanced and detailed questions about engineering implementations.
  • You will provide reporting, tools, and data insights to individuals, team managers, and Director level engineering partners.
  • Measure the reach and usage patterns of Netflix application features such as suspend mode, disk cache, fast play start, and global UI features to inform Product Management decisions.
  • Enable the Reliability Engineering team to track new devices, detect changes and anomalies in performance metrics, and investigate complex problems across Netflix systems.
  • Own and expand a Device Quality Index model that synthesizes quality measures from multiple data domains together into a more digestible indicator of quality.
  • Improve the efficiency of our Certification team responsible for the quality of implementations.
  • Fill in the gaps that exist in dashboards and reports by performing analysis, yet take ownership of improving those tools to facilitate self-service.

Job Requirements:

Who you are:

  • An engineering-minded analyst with a strong background in providing analytic tools to a product or engineering function at a web-oriented or hardware company.
  • Experienced at taking vague requirements and crystallizing them into valuable tools and perspectives.
  • Able to multitask and work on multiple ongoing projects, with minimal oversight, documentation, and defined process.
  • Confident in taking ownership of important projects and courageously make decisions in our culture of Freedom and Responsibility.
  • Able to express data through visualizations and summarize your findings in verbal and written form.
Experience you have:

  • Extensive experience manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources using SQL and Python.
  • Experience analyzing data in Hive / Presto / Spark / relational databases.
  • Strong Tableau experience, including viz development and dashboard optimizations, and experience with other visualization tools.
  • Experience moving and transforming large data volumes with Pig, Python, or Spark
  • A solid understanding of Hadoop / MapReduce is preferred.
  • Experience with dimensional warehouse data models.
  • Experience with quantitative techniques such as statistics and data mining is preferred.

A few more things to know:

Our culture is unique and we live by our values, so it's worth learning more about Netflix. You will need to be comfortable working in the most agile of environments. Requirements will be vague. Iterations will be rapid. We value being nimble and taking smart risks.
