Title:

Senior Database Analyst

Job Description:

Why this job is excellent:

As Senior Database Analyst with TripAdvisor Customer Insights, you will deliver analytic facts and findings based on TripAdvisor's massive data warehouse that will contribute to driving increased client revenue and retention for the entire company.

The TripAdvisor Customer Insights team is a small but rapidly growing area of our business who supports all TripAdvisor advertising and click revenue sales by providing interesting, insightful facts and trends about the world of travel which helps the sales team and their clients in turn understand the world's travel space better than anyone else in the industry.

TripAdvisor as a company provides a unique work environment that captures the speed, innovation and excitement of a start-up, at a thriving, growing and well-established industry brand.

What You'll Do:

  • Deliver business insight to help maximize revenue opportunities across all markets globally. Work on these projects will be ad-hoc in nature and form a significant part of the role.
  • Develop, publish and monitor KPI's to internal stakeholders and directly to advertising clients such as major hotel chains, online booking websites, airlines, city- and country-level tourism organisations and much more.
  • Make tactical recommendations to improve partner KPI's via data analysis, while helping the account management teams stay ahead of the best opportunities.
  • Provide reporting and business analysis to support the global CPC and Instant Booking team with facts and figures that help them and their clients better understand the online traveller via examination of TripAdvisor's own user data. Automate the delivery of any reports produced regularly.
  • Build, Q&A, and evolve market intelligence for our advertising partners by mining internal and external data available.
  • Integrate most actionable, interesting findings into online, client-facing dashboards which further drive business by helping each client better understand their positioning within TripAdvisor's vast traveller ecosystem
  • Monitor and identify any irregularities in data which may help to identify issues with products or operational processes. Troubleshoot problems which have led to the issues identified.
  • Act as an analysis tools and data repository expert. Develop a deep knowledge of all sources of data required to deliver the insight required by the account management group.
  • You will manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, own deliverables end to end, and partner with other teams within the business to achieve your goals.

Job Requirements:

What we need from you:

  • Proven experience analysing big data for an online business, ideally with a background in supporting a sales organisation. Experience working for an online publisher, search engine, or a background in online advertising / media is highly desirable. Interest in the world's travellers and what makes them tick is a must.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL required. Must be comfortable working with large volumes of data. Experience with PostgreSQL databases preferred. Hive / Hadoop experience a significant plus.
  • Requires excellent problem-solving & analytical skills. The ability to combine creative use of insight and data with attention to detail, while balancing these details with the larger business objectives.
  • Willingness to learn new analysis techniques, tools, and technologies. Experience with using data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau) is desirable. We will happily support the right person with training around any new techniques.
  • A self-starter who demonstrates initiative, entrepreneurship, and tenacity while working independently. You will thrive on challenges and will not be deterred by difficult situations. You will work proactively rather than reactively.
  • You have relentlessly high standards, and are never satisfied with the status quo.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly demanding environment with multiple competing priorities both independently and as part of a team. You will be confident partnering with other departments.
  • Excellent communication skills. The ability to listen, and deliver clear concise insight targeted to the audience, that can be digested in a minimum amount of time.
  • You must be comfortable with and adaptable to change. We work in an innovative fast growth environment where products and processes evolve rapidly.
  • Emotional and professional maturity required along with great people and relationship skills.
