  • Analyzes the full range of data and leads the cross-functional due diligence on inbound and outbound licensing and business development opportunities.
  • Responsible for the quality of the formal due diligence output, integrating internal and external subject matter expert input and for senior management review and approval.
  • Works closely with the scientific assessment staff in the innovation hubs (Boston, San Francisco, EU, Shanghai).
  • Works as a member of an integrated BD&L team with that includes interactions with transactions, late stage assessment, commercial and alliance management as opportunities transition through evaluation, execution and kick-off stages.
  • Makes presentation on behalf of Merck at industry networking events, scientific conferences and other venues.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications Education:
  • Graduate degree (including Masters level) in a life sciences discipline


Required:
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the pharma industry and broad knowledge of the biotech and healthcare sector.
  • Experience in business development and licensing
  • A thorough understanding in diagnostics, biomarkers and associated enabling technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more scientific disciplines and/or drug development processes to ensure that Merck is well positioned to identify and pursue high potential opportunities that enable our products and pipeline.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, critical-thinking, verbal and written communication skills
  • Impeccable organizational skills, operational skills, and the ability to understand the content of and memorialize interactions with potential partners.
  • Ability to communicate and understand the specifics of various enabling technologies and their applications to drug development.
  • Proven ability to influence others to reach common goals as well as act independently.
  • Must possess the executive presence to facilitate the decision making process among Merck Senior Executives.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying or evaluating significant partnerships and alliances resulting in substantial impact to the company.
  • Experience in transacting the deals including the skills needed to draft and negotiate agreements.
Preferred:
  • An established network in biotech / large pharma
  • At least 5 years of experience in Biotech or Pharmaceuticals industry, with at least 5 years of business development and partnering experience working in diagnostics.
