The Market Research Associate Director will be responsible for Market Research, US and Global, in support of the Neurology and Virology franchises. The main focus of this position in the near term will be supporting the Alzheimer's program. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to:
  • Plan, manage and execute a scope of work in preparation for the launch of new compounds into the Alzheimer's market
  • Comfortably interact with Neurology extended team members (e.g. Pricing and Access, Sales, Clinical Research, and Marketing) and actively contribute to strategic discussions in these areas
  • Demonstrate consistently strong leadership skills with an ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment with a transformational mindset, cultural awareness, and resiliency to change that enables them to effectively produce results for individual areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to lend their expertise to support the Virology franchise (HIV and Hepatitis C) as needed
  • Manage research agency and other augmented staffing arrangements as dictated by workload demands


Primary activities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Developing and executing US and Global Market Research plans and timelines for both the healthcare professional and consumer markets that will provide Merck with an objective understanding of key customers, competitors, products and current/future market developments
  • Leading primary market research projects including: identifying critical business questions, designing appropriate research studies/methodologies, managing agency partner relationships, leveraging and synthesizing information from alternate data sources and identifying key insights that can be leveraged to give Merck a competitive advantage in the market.
  • Exploring alternative/creative ways of meeting an information need, considering new techniques alongside more traditional approaches to more quickly and efficiently address business requests
  • Completing complex analyses using available secondary data, syndicated reports and databases. Integrating these findings into primary market research efforts to tell and evolve the'story'
  • Leading discussions with Marketing / Commercial Teams and other key stakeholders to ensure that research insights are considered in decision-making and planning
  • Collaborating proactively with cross-functional business partners including marketing communications, market access colleagues, commercial team and the advertising agency to ensure optimal integration
  • Acting as a strategic partner with Marketing/Commercial Team(s), actively providing consultative guidance to inform their strategic decisions and tactical initiatives
  • Communicating in a clear and concise manner in both oral and written communications

Job Requirements:

Qualifications Education:
  • Required: BA/BS
  • Preferred: MBA/MA/MS
Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years market research experience
  • Minimum of 7 years pharmaceutical market experience
  • Experience in Pharma Market Research methodologies using both primary and secondary data sets
  • Experienced in both Qualitative and Quantitative market research methodologies
  • Experience in conducting US and Global market research
  • In-depth knowledge of the US healthcare environment
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Willing and able to travel up to 20% as required per this position
Preferred:
  • Prior launch experience
  • Experience in the Neurology therapeutic category
  • Experience with the Alzheimer's disease area is a plus
  • Highly developed analytical skills, strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to think strategically and objectively
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple requests from multiple stakeholders
