  • Leads the development of a Global Medical Affairs Plan for the franchise or key products, which is aligned to the GHH Brand Book, MRL Late Development Plan and Global Market Access Strategy, and reflects the needs and opportunities in the regions, USA and Japan.
  • Works with Global Medical Information & Operations to ensure the global repository of medical information/education resources caters for regional needs.
  • Advises the RDMAs and Japan/US Medical Affairs Leads on the execution of the Global Medical Affairs Plan in their respective regions. Gives - in collaboration with RDMAs - direction about country medical affairs activities relevant for Merck products.
  • Provides strategic medical guidance to GBL, their Global Marketing Team and Global Market Access Leads.
  • May provide GMA input to PDT on behalf of RDMAs.
  • Voice of authority and information on franchise science to Global Marketing and Global Medical Affairs (GMA) Leadership. Voice of Medical Affairs to MRL and Market Access.
  • For ex-US, scientific communication through contacts, meetings and presentations with/for key stakeholders in accordance with applicable policy and guidance documents. Job Requirements:

Qualifications Education:
  • MD, PhD or PharmD is required


Required:
  • A minimum of 4 years pharmaceutical or related industry experience in country with proven track record of contribution to commercial, medical and/or clinical development strategies in country
  • Customer expertise especially scientific leadership and other key stakeholders (public groups, government officials, medical professional organizations) in therapy area.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate information at management level, with public groups and to scientific leaders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication (written as well as oral), results oriented project management, facilitation and consultative skills to influence decision making.


Preferred:
  • Recognized expertise through 5+ yrs clinical and/or research experience (incl publications) in therapy area is desired
  • Strong prioritization skills and ability to understand how decisions fit into the broader context of corporate strategies
  • In a matrix environment, able to effectively collaborate across divisions
  • Strategic thinking, specifically related to life-cycle management strategy and execution
