While supporting the Biosimilars Business product portfolio, this position will support the Global (including the US) Market Research needs, including Primary, Secondary, and Syndicated research in order to inform the overall Biosimilars portfolio strategies.

  • The Market Research Associate Director will have responsibility for strategic market research in support of the Biosimilar Commercial Team which includes both immunology and oncology biosimilars (and may also include device research, portfolio research, business development support).
  • Strategic partner for the Biosimilar Commercial Marketing team and is responsible for understanding the team's business challenges and proposing, leading, and managing market research to guide the business and integrating those findings for both US and worldwide applications.
  • Leverage a strong understanding of market research and marketing, is expected to synthesize data from Primary Research, Secondary Research, including Longitudinal Data, applying research insights to influence marketing strategy and identify opportunities.
  • Expected to interact with multiple internal and external groups, influence decision-making at a commercial team level, and pro-actively identify opportunities to grow the business.
  • Have demonstrated: consistently strong leadership skills, an ability to work independently and deal well with ambiguity, experience working on products at various stages of the life cycle and with multiple customer segments, and cultural sensitivity.

Key responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

  • Communicates with and aligns a wide range of internal stakeholders (e.g. Marketing, Centers of Excellence, Regions/ Countries) and external stakeholders to execute research and align around the findings and recommendations.
  • Engages stakeholders in discussion of full range of recommendations, and advocates for appropriate actions to be taken to positively impact the business.
  • Working knowledge of the various data sources used for performance tracking and ad hoc analysis of dynamic market conditions
  • Independently leads working teams to scope and design market research studies and analyses with the appropriate burden of proof, Works directly with research agencies to achieve results: understands vendor capabilities, quality requirements, and appropriate level of innovation. May assist in overseeing project work and provide appropriate direction as needed to Sr. Specialists.
  • Personally manages complex, higher risk projects at a product, customer segment, commercial or divisional level with limited/ some supervision. Takes full ownership of understanding the business challenge and information needs, considers alternatives, proposes appropriate method/approach, applies best practices, and proactively considers and/or develops new techniques and innovations to meet objectives. Completes complex analyses using available databases, applies broad knowledge of secondary sources and statistics.
  • Develops a global market research plan with minimal supervision, based on understanding wide range of business issues. Effectively manages competing priorities and demands from within a product team/ commercial team/ client team.
  • Interacts with outside business development partners as needed
  • Is fully competent in market research methodologies (as articulated in competency grids). Participates in advancement of market research for Merck overall. Collaborates on Brand/Commercial-directed efforts across franchises and commercial teams.
  • Ensure all appropriate global and local market research procedures, Merck policies, and legal laws are followed in the execution of marketing research.
  • Collaborate with other members of research community, local country subsidiary counterparts, and extended marketing teams to seek opportunities to identify, apply, develop and share best practices.
  • Team player - build relationships with key Marketing and other functional areas, both in the US & ex-US markets.

  • Required: BA/BS
  • Preferred: MBA/MS
Required :
  • Minimum of (10) years work experience in Pharmaceutical Market Research and/or related experience such as (Sales, Marketing, Marketing/Sales support)
  • Strong working knowledge of Pharmaceutical Marketing/Market Research
  • Experience conducting Market Research on a global basis, with a strong Project Management background
  • Advanced knowledge of Market Research methods, models, principles and systems, including IMS MIDAS Sales data and similar secondary data sources
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, an aptitude for problem-solving and strategic thinking
  • Orientation toward collaboration/team work, ability to lead teams in execution of Market Research, interest in ongoing learning
  • Solid understanding of Customer and Business Marketing, the Healthcare Environment, and Global Pharmaceutical Markets
