Director, Global Market Access

Job Description:

Description Merck & Co., Inc. Kenilworth, N.J., U.S.A. known as Merck in the United States and Canada, is a global health care leader with a diversified portfolio of prescription medicines, vaccines and animal health products. Today, we are building a new kind of healthcare company - one that is ready to help create a healthier future for all of us. Our ability to excel depends on the integrity, knowledge, imagination, skill, diversity and teamwork of an individual like you. To this end, we strive to create an environment of mutual respect, encouragement and teamwork. As part of our global team, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with talented and dedicated colleagues while developing and expanding your career. The Director, Global Market Access Odanacatib (75%) and Women's Health (25%) is responsible for leading cross functional access project teams to design and execute the workstreams associated with the development of global market access strategies and implementation plans for launch and in-line products.

This includes overseeing the design and conduct of Payer Landscape research and analysis and synthesizing global pricing and reimbursement systems and the needs of payers to develop payer strategies and tactics to improve product access.

The Global Market Access Director is a key member of the global team supporting the launch of Odanacatib, our novel investigational cathepsin K inhibitor for the treatment of osteoporosis. Odanacatib will be the first cathepsin K inhibitor to market with limited in-market competition from branded agents. Given the well documented unmet needs in the osteoporosis market, the commercial potential for odanacatib is significant. Regulatory filings for odanacatib will be in 2016 with first launches as of mid-2017.

For Odanacatib the Director Global Market Access will work with the top 8 markets (incl. US, Japan, Germany) to develop market specific access plans, seek innovative ways to ensure that patients who have dropped off therapy from bisphosphonates have easy access to odanacatib and ensure an appropriate reimbursement price. The Director Global Market Access will also work in close tandem with Global Pricing to develop Odana's global pricing strategy, innovative contracting approaches in both 1st and 2nd line markets and input to launch sequencing (reference pricing implications).

(S)he will also contribute to the development of longer term policy agenda that supports growth over the lifecycle and contribute to medical affairs strategies related to evolution of osteoporosis guidelines. Further, (s)he works closely in partnership with the Product Marketing, CORE team, the Region Market Access Leaders and/or countries on the Access Strategy, design of payer resource tools, tactics and global acccess implementation plans. In addition, he/she leads various workstreams to provide access related input into the clinical development strategies for products.

The ability to handle and synthesize scientific data is a plus. In addition, the Director, Global Market Access provides payer and access related input to Business Development opportunities.
