Popular Jobs in Ireland: Brief Overview

Despite the small size of the country, its economy is actively developing. That is why the number of jobs in Ireland is increasing. The greatest need is for qualified specialists, but people without special education can also find something to do. Qualified actions of the government and a flexible tax system allow the country great potential.

Variety of Irish Jobs: Supply and Demand

There are a huge number of different jobs on the labor market. Companies offer full day and part time jobs in Ireland and abroad, but there are careers that are strongly demanded and employers are ready for almost any employee conditions. This is a list of the most sought-after areas:

  • IT-technology (and computer science in general);
  • engineering;
  • scientists and lab technicians;
  • medicine (nutritionists, radiologists and biotechnologists);
  • services industry (hotels, restaurants, catering).

There is a group of jobs in Ireland for Irish citizens (non-official). Receiving one of them for foreigners is difficult. First of all, we are talking about electricians, nurses, carers, professionals in the tourism sector and builders.

Ireland Employment: Required Documents

There are two ways to work in the country – legal and illegal. In the first case, the employee is protected by law and all labor relations are regulated by law. This applies both for jobs in Dublin and any small town in the backwoods. To get job in Ireland for expats, one must have these documents:

  • the national visa category D (non-Schengen, authorizes entry into the country);
  • a working visa;
  • official permission to work.

The alternative is to get a Green Card, but this document binds the employee to the employer, who (in most cases) pays for it. A special category of FAS jobs and trainings creates the Department of Social Protection.

Ireland Job Opportunities: Salary

The minimum wage of a qualified specialist, representing a not very prestigious profession is 9 euros per hour. The average salary in Dublin is about 33 thousand euros per year. If one is working in the IT-sphere or medicine, he can count on an even greater salary. In general, the average employee working in Ireland today receives about 400-500 euros per week. In addition to this, one can wait for the premium calculation, which is 7-8% of annual earnings.
